He said; "85 percent of the people spend their time in buildings. The smart metering of buildings reduces energy consumption, resource consumption, reducing the effects of environmental degradation of buildings; also result in increasing the comfort and safety of residents along with a building management cost reduction.
He explained that what the smart buildings are; and enumerated some of the most commonly used systems and said: "These systems include lighting, fire detection and fire extinguisher, elevators and stairs, safety and security of buildings, ventilation, and cooling and heating, which in a smart building communicate in an integrated way.
The R &D manager, Khalilian, referred to smart building as being equipped with instrumentation & controls, connectives & communications, and computing resources (hardware and software) as the features of smart buildings. He stated: for the new buildings built considered "smart" in delivery stage must include the ducts spaces necessary for installation or control of the buildings, monitoring and control system, and network connections actuators and communications.
He further pointed out a few details in the explanation the roadmap for constructing smart buildings. Specifically, figuring out stakeholders priorities point of view; reduction of water and energy (moving towards zero energy consumption), reducing current costs; increasing life of the building and comfort of the residents, determining level of smartness needed, type of building, its size and its application; determination of technology (video image transfer, the issue of redundancy, protocol communication protocol, power supplies, ventilation systems and control rooms, etc.) are among these points.
Khalilian continued pointing out the opportunities created in smart building including: creating new jobs and businesses in the building industry; the ICT industry by expanding smart technologies, moving toward a sustainable and resilient city by reducing water and energy consumption, reducing pollution and waste, etc. are among the opportunities that are available in this area.
At the end of this seminar, the following suggestions were made to accelerate smart cities realization:
• Establishing of Smart Buildings Board of Engineering oversight body
• Setting up a Smart Buildings Unit in the Isfahan Province Computer & Office Equipment Association
• Initiating a smart buildings research unit (in collaboration with research, academic centers and the private sector)
• Establishing Smart Buildings Society (consisting of all stakeholders)■
